How to use your Smudge Set

Smudging ceremonies often use Sage & Palo Santo Wood. They are both used in many different ways but more commonly used in house blessings, spiritual and object cleansings to drive away negative energy. Do not use if you suffer from Asthma or have respiratory issues. Do not use near infants or young children or anyone who is or may be pregnant. Do not leave burning smudge or palo santo unattended!

Selenite helps to stabilize and balance the emotional body. Selenite wands can also be used to clean and clear other crystals that you have of any negative energies they have picked up.

Make sure the room where you are smudging has an open door or windows to expel the negative energy and so smoke does not build up. Intention is more important than what you say so remember before you start to smudge, free your thoughts of negativity. The Selenite stick & Palo Santo can help with this. Light Palo Santos for 30 seconds and safely blow into an even glow. Place Palo Santo in a heat safe dish and leave lit to expel all negative thoughts or feelings. Never leave incense burning unattended.

Think of a short blessing you can say during the smudging process such as, “May this home/spirit/object be filled with joy, abundance, laughter and lots of love. Bless all who enter/come into contact with. Bless this home/spirit/object and fill it with love.” or whatever you wish to create. You can say this throughout the smudging process.

When blessing a home start from the farthest room or area from the exit. Light sage for 20-30 seconds and while being very cautious blow to create a glow of smoke. Carry around a heat safe dish (or the shell if you received it) to collect the ashes. Sage will go out every couple minutes but this is the normal way this sacred item burns.

Move the sage up, down and all around the entire room working your way towards the exit. Complete this in each area of the house. If using on a spirit/object start from top to bottom and make sure to include all around the body/object. At the end of the ceremony make sure the stick is completely put out. You can crush the end in dirt, a heat safe dish or shell. Never leave burning unattended.
